At the SPLASH Members Meeting on Tuesday, November 1, President Rob Weltner reported that a study is underway to examine the feasibility of routing effluent from Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant to the Cedar Creek Outfall Pipe using existing piping that runs under Sunrise Highway. The Cedar Creek pipe empties 1.5 miles out into the Atlantic Ocean, and would stop Bay Park from dumping into Reynolds Channel and surrounding bays. Currently, Bay Park dumps an average of 60,000,000 gallons a day into the bay. This would also be a less expensive option than installing a new ocean outfall pipe under Long Beach, and also less expensive than upgrading the BP plant to a tertiary treatment facility. Operation SPLASH is a advocate for upgrading the BPSTP and taking better care of our bays.
