Operation SPLASH Partners with 1% for the Planet
July 26, 2022 – FREEPORT, NEW YORK – Operation SPLASH is a new environmental partner of 1% for the Planet, an alliance of more than 5,700 business and individual members that give back to support environmental organizations.
“We are excited to join a network of businesses and individuals that are genuinely committed to improving our global environments,” says SPLASH president Robert Weltner. “These donations will go directly into our cleanup efforts and make it possible for us to continue our mission of keeping the south shore bays, waterways, and beaches clean and safe.”
Operation SPLASH is now eligible to receive donations from 1% for the Planet business and individual members companies, placing them among a diverse, global network of environmental organizations. 1% members fuel this nonprofit network through their annual contributions. Partnership with 1% greatly expands the potential pool of funding to which Operation SPLASH can look to for support.
Operation SPLASH contributes to a healthier planet through marine debris removal cleanups, advocacy efforts, and education programs. To date, SPLASH volunteers have removed more than three million pounds of debris from local waterways, but they know there is more work to be done.
“We know our environmental partners play a critical role in solving the many challenges facing our planet, and our core work is to grow the support that enables these nonprofits to accomplish even more,” says Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet. “We are thrilled to welcome Operation SPLASH to the 1% for the Planet network.”

About Operation SPLASH
Operation SPLASH is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to improving the quality of Long Island’s south shore bays, waterways, and beaches. SPLASH members actively carry out this mission through marine debris cleanups, advocacy efforts, and STEM-based education programs for schools and universities. Since its founding in 1990, SPLASH members have removed more than three million pounds of trash from local waters and their work has influenced environmental legislation aimed at improving marine environments. Through intentional action and advocacy, SPLASH believes that the south shore can be preserved for wildlife and Long Islander’s alike to enjoy for generations to come.
